BUSY WEEKS

hey all!

Been a busy couple of weeks over here. But FIRST, I'd like to lead you over to the finished trailer for VISUALISER:

I'm pretty happy with it! There's a few bits and pieces I'd probably go back to if I felt I had more time, but as I dive deep into The Last Magi #2 I can't give this project any more time than it's had already.

SPEAKING of The Last Magi, I've started drawing the second book! I don't have any finished art to show off, but I do have finished Thumbnails, which you can see below.

I think you can click and embiggen this but I dunno

My 365 project is going pretty well also! You can check that out over at Instagram. If you're not following me on Twitter yet either, please follow me for more art updates!

That's all for this week, I'll dive back into this blog next week. I should have some more Magi stuff to show you then.

MAGI STUFF

Hey, all!

The structure last week was okay but I suspect I'm not gonna be talking about multiple subjects per week so I'm gonna drop the structure for now. I do like the idea of dropping some cool links for you to look at at the bottom of a post so that's about as much structure as I'm gonna continue with.

Anyway, on to business.

Most of the week just gone has been spent working on a big freelance job so I didn't get a lot done in terms of creative projects. I wrote a few pages of THE LAST MAGI though, which I guess is progress enough. I'd like to have the script finished this week though because I'm fast running out of time before the first chapter finishes its weekly schedule on Tapas.io

So, for now, I'm gonna leave you with a few bits of art, mostly concept pieces for Magi. Nothing major, and certainly not as much as I'd like to have done.

Not sure if this'll end up in the final series or not, but it was something I was thinking about this week.

I've never done an inventory breakdown like this, but it was an interesting experiment trying to think about things characters in fantasy worlds would need to carry. This will probably come into play for some characters that'll appear in the third chapter of The Last Magi.

I'm not sure who this'll be the design for, but it's the larval version of something, that's for damn sure. I quite like the almost Ghost Rider esque nature to this guy.

It's my birthday this week, so next time we speak I'll be just that slight bit older, wiser (pfft). I'm planning on doing a 365 project which I feel like is maybe setting myself up to fail but why not try, right?

I'm gonna try and do a finished piece of art a day, starting on my birthday. So this time next year I should have almost 365 finished pieces. You can watch my progress over at my Twitter, starting this Thursday.

a lil bit sick

Hey all! Starting the writing portion of this blog post in the middle of the week and I'm feeling pretty under the weather! Enjoy.

Trying to figure out what form I want this blog to take, whether I should structure it at all. I'm gonna try a structure for this week and then I'll see if I feel like doing the same next week or not! Anyway,

//THE VISUALISER//

So this trailer is getting there! I've got some music have my friend Nick Schaedel put together that sounds great (if you want to listen, have a look at the timelapse videos I posted last week, I used the soundtrack as the audio on those)

Here's a couple of finished shots for you to look at:

Next up is to finish off a couple of shots that I have in a half finished state at the moment, and then I'll basically have a finished trailer. I'll post the final thing either next week or the week after, but no further in the future than that!

//THE LAST MAGI//

I finally got around to starting the second script, but that's about all. I need to get onto drawing some concepts for it which is my plan for this week.

The Last Magi is inspired by videogames and RPGs and the like, so showing character progression via the collection of artifacts seems to me like a cool thing to include in the characters journey. This week I've also been thinking about monsters and other creatures that the Magi will encounter. In this particular story they're exploring an old forest + temple, so I'm gonna be playing around with some different creature inspirations for a post later in the week.

projects

Thanks for coming back! For the first real post on this website I'm gonna quickly type up a few things about the main projects I'm trying to work on at the moment. Starting with The Visualiser.

The Visualiser is a story idea I initially came up with back in 2011 that dealt with cyborgs/immortality for the rich/crime, etc, that I've been wanting to work on for years but never really had a good idea format-wise. About a month ago at work (I work for a local television studio) we had an internal 'create a trailer for a new tv show' challenge and I decided to throw something together for The Visualiser.

Except it'd be animated.

Which was a huge fucking ask of myself to try and knock together 45 seconds of cool animated trailer on top of my normal workload and having a life. But I did it! I'm not going to post the finished thing for a while because there are a couple of shots I've been meaning to tidy up.

I will, however, leave you with some timelapses of some of the shots. Next week I'll post some finished shots, and maybe the week after I'll post the actual real deal finished trailer.

The other project I've been working on is a comic called The Last Magi, that I debuted at Chromacon in April. I'm scripting the second chapter at the moment, and you can read the first chapter over at Tapas.

That's all for this week! Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad for the company.

the struggle

I struggled (for ten seconds, yes, yes, I'm hard done by) to come up with a name for this first blogpost. I initially typed out "Hello, world" before promptly lifting my right hand up and then giving myself an ice-cold crisp slap across the jaw. I knew I was wrong.
